I like coffee, and I like beer, but it is no means a foregone conclusion that blending these two delightful items will result in a palatable beverage. Coffee is a natural accompaniment to darker beers, like porters and stouts, often happening along by accident, but an amber ale combined with not just any old coffee, but espresso? That is a challenging bit of juxtapositioning my friend!
This amber ale pours a pleasing reddish-gold with a decent bit of off white head. The coffee is not immediately apparent in the nose, but from the very first sip, it makes it's presence well known. The bitterness of the coffee complements light hopping to balance out the malts and results in a tightrope walker of a beer that scratches both the ale and coffee itches. A robust mouthfeel and pleasant finish make this a job well done!. At 7% ABV, it isn't exactly a breakfast beer; well, not under normal conditions anyways. Under the right condition it could make a heck of a brunch addition.
The sky gets a little fuller in the nativity today, with another star brightening the night. I'm assuming this one is an actual star, not some other intermittent celestial phenomenon...
